“Getaway Dogs drizzle dreamy acoustic intimacy and soul” —Mitch Mosk, Atwood Magazine
“Sawtooth (I’ve Been Wrong Before)”, the new single from Getaway Dogs stirs up a cocktail of sounds from many musical influences and lets each ingredient of genre blend together as one smooth elixir. The complexity of instrumentation showcases a mastery of styles from bossanova, tropicalia, indie rock, and neo-soul as each idiosyncrasy lathers into a frothy tonic of melodic flavor. The single is off of their upcoming album, BELONG, and is out for release September 9.
“Sawtooth (I’ve Been Wrong Before)” travels through a myriad of musical channels with fluent precision and constant genre metamorphosis. Laid-back indie rock essence builds in crescendo before molding into a waltzy, bossa nova chord progression. Lustrous trombone and musky, soulful vocals merge, creating a fluid, flowing river of psychedelic rhapsody. The mellow current created with each layer of sound summons songwriter, Kai Killion’s, introspective lyrics that explore themes of humility and fully releasing the need for perfection into the void. Each honest utterance bobs on the glistening surface of the deep river of sound, keeping its head above water as a therapeutic release into waves of self- acceptance.
BELONG, the upcoming album from Getaway Dogs, narrows in on the band’s unique style from previous bodies of work. Unifying psychedelic surf rock, indie folk, soul and Tropicália, it dives deeper into the hidden caves of musical discovery, embracing the vastness without going adrift. Getaway Dogs lure multitudes of sound from behind each corner, giving them a space to roam together. Each song conveys its own particular feeling as honest, introspective lyrics inhabit the atmosphere created by layers of influence. The album title, Belong, calls the listener in to feel at home in the dreamscape, holding space for those who feel overwhelmed by the current state of the world. BELONG is out for release September 27th.

About Getaway Dogs
Getaway Dogs is the brainchild of Brazilian-Californian songwriter Kai Killion. Nearly impossible to genrefy, their sound has been dubbed “Cushy Bedroom Psychedelic Bossanova & Dreamsurf, due to a certain blending of Tropicália songwriting and surfy grooves, amongst other influences. Prior to this band, Killion made one solo album called Mermaid Legs & Getaway Dogs (2013), where the band name was born. Their debut album, Lost In The Ebb, was released in 2016. They have shared the stage with notable acts such as Tommy Guerrero, Durand Jones & The Indications, and Space Captain, and have been a part of festivals such as Do-It-Ourselves Fest, Whole Earth UC Davis and the Mill Valley Fall Arts Festival. The band currently consists of Killion (guitars/vocals), Spencer Higgins (drums, percussion), Lucas Heinel (percussion, synth) and Chili Corder (bass).
