“vibrating vocals, the heart-pounding rhythms, and bass that will stir your soul” – American Songwriter

SEATTLE (April 14, 2022) – Setting the stage for summertime, the new single from The Jaws of Brooklyn, “Sugar Sugar” combines a bubble-gum shimmy, Motown soul, and garage grit into sonic harmony. With its bassline working overtime, the song’s elevated heart rate tells the story of chemistry between lovers ready to strike a match and ignite. Due out May 17, it is the fourth single off the upcoming “The Shoals” debut album set to release July 22.

“Sugar Sugar” pays homage to the iconic basslines born out of the Alabama Shoals region, grabbing your attention from the first nickel-wound stanza. Paul Christofferson carries the melody with his super slinky licks as lead singer Lindsay Love’s soaring vocals are surrounded by crunchy guitars, layered organ, and icy keyboard bells. The single’s new-wave vintage sound is just one thread in the band’s catalogue of garage, soul, and pop all polished into an arrangement that stays true to their roots.

The Shoals dances between smoldering sizzle, psychedelic smoke, and bright vintage-soul arrangements to capture the heart of its namesake. The album was recorded in The Shoals region of Alabama at Sundrop Sound, the studio co-owned by Alabama Shakes keyboardist Ben Tanner and John Paul White (formerly of The Civil Wars). Co-produced by Tanner and the band, it cradles a vintage 60’s-reverb sound that still feels modern – as if Aretha, Otis, and Mick were sharing a drink with the band after each session.

About The Jaws of Brooklyn

The Jaws of Brooklyn formed when Radio Raheem’s three members (Zia Uddin-Drums, Paul Christofferson-Bass, Bryan Cohen-Guitar) met singer Lindsay Love in Seattle during the height of the COVID pandemic in August 2020. They recorded a series of 60’s flavored Rock n’ Roll and Soul demos in Cohen’s basement, which included background vocal contributions from Black Pumas’ Lauren Cervantes and keyboards from Funky 2 Death’s Melissa Montalto. The demos caught the ear of Alabama Shakes keyboardist Ben Tanner and Fitz and the Tantrums and Lady Blackbird writer/producer Chris Seefried. Their debut album also features contributions from Alabama Shakes/Brittney Howard background vocalists Shanay Johnson and Karita Law
